π Scripture. πͺ
(Job 16:5-6) But if it were me, I would encourage you. I would try to take away your grief. Instead, I suffer if I defend myself, and I suffer no less if I refuse to speak.
Observation: Job is speaking to his friends and asking for their comfort, not advice. Often, when a friend goes through something difficult, we think the best way to help is to solve their problem or give them steps to overcome it. Indeed, there are times when this is the best way to help. However, often, the best way to help a friend going through something terrible is to be relentless with our presence, not our opinions. People usually know what to do but donβt have the strength to do it. Someone once said the right way is not hard to find. It is just hard to do. The best way to help is to be there.
Application: Before offering advice, spend time with someone and walk with them for a while.
Prayer: Thank You, God, for always walking with us through every difficulty.
