Hello friends. Happy Saturday!
Late August often feels like a mix of “almost fall” and “still sweating.” It’s a season of waiting—waiting for school rhythms to settle, for cooler weather, or maybe just for life to calm down. Amos 1 arrives like a thunderclap in the middle of that stillness: a prophet with a farmer’s voice and a fire in his bones, calling nations to account.

📚 Scripture. 💪
(Amos 1:3a) “For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment...”
Observation: Amos begins his prophecy by calling out the surrounding nations—Damascus, Gaza, Tyre, Edom, and others—for their cruelty, injustice, and disregard for human life. His repeated phrase, “For three sins… even for four,” paints a picture of sin piling up beyond the point of tolerance. This chapter sets the tone: God sees injustice everywhere, and no nation is exempt from His righteous standards.
Application: It’s tempting to read Amos and think, “Yeah, those people deserve it.” But if God holds nations accountable, how much more should I examine my own heart and actions? Today I need to stop pointing fingers and ask, “Is there any injustice I’m ignoring or excusing in my own life?”
Prayer: Lord, You are a just and holy God. Help me not to ignore sin—whether it’s in my life, my community, or my world. Give me the courage to seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with You.

🤔 Apologetics. Why Did Jesus Have to Come As A Man?
“Why must I see God?” you may ask. There are many good reasons why. The simplest, and most crucial, is that ignorance fuels irreverence. When we don’t know the truth about who God is, we either end up dismissing God as a figment of human imagination or make God up as we imagine Him to be. Only when we see (know) God for who He truly is will we be able to respond to Him as we must.

🤪 Dad Joke of the week
What do you call fake spaghetti?
An impasta.
Amos reminds us that God is not silent in the face of injustice—even when others are. His justice is firm, but it’s also part of His love for what is good, right, and true. And let’s be honest—if a shepherd-turned-prophet with no formal training can preach God’s word, there’s hope for all of us ordinary folks too.
