Hello friends. Happy Saturday!
November is here, and with it comes the season of Thanksgiving. We just set our clocks back an hour, and the shorter days are a gentle reminder to slow down and pay attention to what matters most. This month we are going to keep our hearts pointed toward gratitude as we walk through some powerful psalms together. This week, Psalm 115 reminds us that every good thing in our lives points back to the God who gave it.

📚 Scripture. 💪
Psalm 115:2 NLT
"Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness.”
Observation: Psalm 115 opens by pushing the spotlight away from God’s people and placing it squarely on God Himself. The psalmist then contrasts the living God with the idols of the nations, which have mouths that cannot speak, eyes that cannot see, and ears that cannot hear. Those idols were made by human hands, which means they could never be greater than the people who made them. The psalm warns that those who trust in idols will become just like them, empty and lifeless. Our idols today rarely look like statues, but success, comfort, approval, and control can quietly take the place that belongs to God alone. The reason God deserves all the glory is found right in the verse: His unfailing love and faithfulness have never let us down.
Application: This week, when someone compliments you or something goes well, take a moment to thank God out loud for His part in it. Then ask Him to show you one good thing in your life that has started to compete for His place.
Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, for Your unfailing love and faithfulness, and help me give You the glory that belongs to You alone instead of chasing the empty promises of the idols around me.

📣 Sermon/Testimony. The Glory of God, Part 1. (Chuck Swindoll) Chuck Swindoll opens a series on the character of God by explaining what Scripture means when it speaks of His glory. He shows the weight and splendor of God’s presence and why that glory belongs to God alone. It pairs perfectly with Psalm 115 and will help you think carefully about who receives the credit in your life.
🤔 Apologetics. The Kalam Cosmological Argument. (Reasonable Faith) Psalm 115 reminds us that our God is in the heavens, while idols are made by human hands. This short animated video from William Lane Craig’s ministry walks through one of the strongest arguments that the universe had a beginning and therefore a cause beyond itself. It is clear, visual, and short enough to watch over a cup of coffee, and it is a great one to share with a friend who has questions about God.
🧠 Mental Health. How to Stop Overthinking Part 1: The 4 Subconscious Reasons You Overthink Everything. Overthinking can feel like we are solving problems when we are really just spinning our wheels. Emma McAdam explains the hidden reasons our brains get stuck in loops of worry and analysis. Understanding why you overthink is the first step toward breaking the cycle and finding real rest.
📚 Book Recommendation. Counterfeit Gods. (Timothy Keller) Keller argues that idolatry is not an ancient problem but one of the most practical issues of the modern heart. He shows how good things like success, money, love, and power become counterfeit gods when we ask them to give us what only God can give. Each chapter walks through a familiar Bible story and ends by pointing to Jesus as the One who satisfies what our idols promise but never deliver. It is a perfect companion to Psalm 115 and a helpful read for anyone ready to honestly examine what is competing for their heart.

“A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell.” ~ C. S. Lewis

🤪 Meme of the Week

Psalm 115 reminds us that God alone deserves the glory because His love and faithfulness never fail. The idols of our day promise a lot, but they cannot speak, see, or save. As Thanksgiving approaches, let gratitude turn your attention away from yourself and toward the God who gives every good gift. Not to us, Lord, but to Your name be the glory.
